Our services in detail
Forest management
Forest management is needed to keep a forest healthy and vigorous. If a forest is not actively managed, a mature forest loses value as overmature trees die from the spread of disease and pests. A weakening forest is also vulnerable to storms.

Reforestation advice, planning and work
The first tasks after regeneration are weed removal and tending of the plantations. Together with cleaning fellings, they shape the future forest early on. Later, thinnings improve the trees' access to nutrients and light.
Thinnings lay the foundation for a high-quality forest: the stand reaches technical maturity sooner, the rotation becomes shorter and income arrives earlier. The share of high-quality, most valuable assortments also grows.
Depending on the main tree species, growing a forest to maturity takes 30–130 years: birch at 60–70 years, spruce at 80–90 and pine at 90–120 years.
Site preparation: removing or breaking up the turf by hand or machine promotes natural regeneration and helps planted seedlings take root. The topsoil may be broken up on up to 50% of the felling area. Furrows made with a disc plough also make it easier to find the seedlings when tending them.
Planting: spruce and birch are usually planted at 2,500–3,000 per hectare, pine is planted or sown at 3,000–5,000 per hectare.
Tending of young stands: seedlings of the target species are freed from grass and brushwood over the whole area, in corridors or within at least a 50 cm radius around each plant.
We provide reforestation advice and planning together with our partners.

Long-term forest land management
A productive, high-quality forest needs care. You can entrust Actively OÜ with organising all silvicultural work – we are responsible for the quality of the work, the condition of the forest and the timing and supervision of further work. Every job is agreed with the forest owner in advance.
We draw up a forest management plan and find out the owner's goals. Together we plan the work for 10 years, the next regeneration fellings and thinnings, and reforestation with the necessary tending.
We carry out all forest work and handle the paperwork, improve the sanitary condition and productivity of the forest, inspect it regularly and give advice and recommendations.

Forest management plans
A forest management plan gives the owner a thorough overview of the forest's condition and value and makes it possible to plan reforestation and the need for fellings.
We prepare plans together with our partners. If you sell your forest property or cutting rights to Actively OÜ, the management plan is drawn up FREE of charge!

Help with forestry paperwork
Planned fellings require a forest notification approved by the Environmental Board. The forest owner and the contractor then sign a written cutting rights transfer agreement.
Agreements with timber buyers and neighbouring landowners are also required. We help you get all the necessary documents in order.

Planning and marking fellings
Thinning has a silvicultural purpose: it shapes the composition of the stand, improves growing conditions and sanitary condition, and increases resistance to storm and snow damage. Types of thinning are cleaning, commercial thinning and sanitary felling.
Regeneration felling creates the conditions for a new generation of forest, usually in mature stands. Its types are clear-cutting and shelterwood cutting.
Selective felling is permitted in uneven-aged mixed stands managed as continuous-cover forest, uneven-aged pure pine and spruce stands, multi-layered stands and grey alder stands.
Fellings are marked together by the Actively OÜ forester and the felling contractor.

Felling and supervision
Fellings managed by Actively OÜ are carried out by reliable partners whose high-quality work and compact machinery allow working in forests with different soils.
Supervision is done by a representative of Actively OÜ. We also repair the road when needed.

Roundwood procurement and sales
After cutting and hauling, the timber is stored by assortment at the roadside landing at the forest edge and then delivered to buyers.
Roundwood is transported and sold together with our partners. Thanks to long-term cooperation we have agreements with our partners, so we can offer competitive prices.

Wood chip procurement and sales
Wood chip production is environmentally friendly, as brushwood growing on ditch banks, logging residue and stumps can be used as raw material. Clearing brushwood, ditches and roadsides and collecting logging residue improves the look of the landscape and makes management easier and cheaper.
Wood chips are produced with special chippers. We work with partners in wood chip production and sales.
